Type Locality and Naming

Along the Bassay River, Takhatau Mountains, Central Kyzylkum, 3. S. Rumyantseva, 1974 (386, p. 34).

Synonym: Bassaysaya Suite, Бассайская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Based on lithological composition, two parts of the section are distinguished.

Upper (Thickness: 380m) - red-brown conglomerates, coarse-bedded, poorly sorted, dense, with numerous lens-shaped layers of gravelites and uneven-grained sandstones.

Lower (Thickness: 320m) - greenish-gray sandstones and gravelites, conglomerates with occasional layers of reddish-brown siltstones and siltstone (aleurolites). Total thickness of the suite: 700m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies the Dzheltumsuk Fm

Upper contact

It is overlain by modern aeolian sands (439).

Regional extent

Central Kyzylkum, northern slope of the Takhatau Mountains. Corresponds to the upper sub-suite of the Takhatau Fm
